- Backing Up Your Site
It's a good idea to have some repeating content (that is, content that shows up on every page) on your web pages. Some examples of repeating content are:
- navigation menus (left, right and horizontal navigation bars)
- contact info
- link to your home page
- crumbtrail (a sequential list of all the pages you are below, which lead back to the home page, and includes a home link.)
1. Your repeating content should be in its own separate WObject (eg an article).
2. Choose "Add Article" from your "Add content" menu on the top left of the page.
3. In the description, fill in the content you want to have repeating. For menus or crumbtrails, you can just type in the WebGUI Macros below. Macros are tiny bits of code which will automatically generate bit of your website for you. Here are some practical Macros to get you started and save you time:
- crumbtrail = ^C;
- homepage menu / current level of pages (vertical) = ^M;
- subpage menu / previous level of pages (vertical) = ^P;
And here are the ones to create the same menus, but horizontal....
- home menu / current level of pages (horizontal) = ^m;
- subpage menu / previous level of pages (horizontal) = ^p;
4. It's a good idea to give the WObject a meaningful name (eg contact info), so that it's easy to identify. You can turn off the title if it is not necessary in the "Layout" tab.
5. To reuse this WObject, click on the copy button above the WObject you want to duplicate. This will move a copy into your *clipboard*.
6. Then, go to the page where you want to paste the WObject. Go to the Paste from clipboard menu (in the middle of the top of the screen), and choose the WObject you want to paste.
7. Adjust the placement of your "Repeating Content" the same way as you would
with an article -- Click the "Edit" buttons to access Page and WObject
Properties, and place each bit into the nubered sections of your page.
A link list will give you the option to "open link in new window" or not.
Generally, it is best to choose "no" for internal links (so the viewer doesn't have multiple pages open as they move through your site) and "yes" for external links (so the viewer can get back to your site without starting over).
Single SpacingWhen I press the Enter key, my text is double spaced. Is there a way to format some text single spaced?
If you hold down the Shift key while you press Enter, your text will be single-spaced.
Not WorkingOften it's just a momentary software glitch. Simply save your work, log out, and log back in.
If that doesn't work, try the feature again later.
If still no results, contact your BWC support person (Marisa or Skylark).
Back ButtonToward the top of your screen is usually a button that says "back", allowing you to return to where you came from.
WebGUI doesn't much like the back button. A "crumbtrail" will allow you to backtrack without using the back button. A crumbtrail is a series of page titles, telling you which pages you went to, to get where you are now. A crumbtrail is like a series of lightposts along a path, showing you where you came from and how to get back.
To create a crumbtrail, create an article, click on the ^# feature, choose the "navigation" dropdown menu, and choose crumbtrail. A symbol will appear in your text box. Save, and look at your page for a series of clickable page titles.

Internet Explorer vs NetscapeGUI likes Internet Explorer best. IE will allow for the best use of GUI. GUI
