Adding Links to Your Web Page

Step 1

There are three different ways to add links to your page. Which one you choose depends on the type of page you want to create and on how many links you have.

Detailed instructions for each of these options are below.


Adding a Site Map to Your Web Page


Site Map - Step 1

Go to the Add content menu in the top left of the page.
Click the down arrow to the right of Add content.
Choose Site Map from the drop-down menu.


Site Map - Step 2

An Edit Site Map screen like the one below will appear.

Some Key Features:

Title You can give your site map a meaningful title. This title will appear above your site map.

eg, PovNet's Site Map

Description Any text that you type in the Description box will appear above your site map.

Start With Choose your web site's home page from the drop-down list. This will display your home page and all pages below it (in the page tree) in a hierarchical list.



Adding a Link List to Your Web Page


Link List - Step 1

Go to the Add content menu in the top left of the page.
Click the down arrow to the right of Add content.
Choose Link List from the drop-down menu.

 


Link List - Step 2

An Edit Link List screen like the one below will appear.

Some Key Features:

Title You can give your link list a meaningful title. This title will appear above your link list.

Description Any text that you type in the Description box will appear above your link list.

What Next? You can either choose to Add a Link, or save your page.


Link List - Step 3

Now you're ready to add a link.

Title: Add the title of your link. This will be the underlined or highlighted text that someone clicks on to go to the link.

URL: This is the web site address of the link. You need to enter the entire URL of the web site

eg, http://www.povnet.org

Open in new window? Select yes if you'd like this link to pop-up into a new window. If you're linking to a page on your own web site, you should choose No.

Description: Describe the site you're linking to. The description is optional.

What Next? Choose Go Back to the Page to finish your Link List. Choose Add a new link to continue adding links.


 

 


Link List - Step 4

You're almost done creating your Link List.

Click on the Layout tab. A box like the one below will appear.

Display the Title: Click Yes to display the Link List title, or No to hide it.

Template: Choose the template to use for your web site.

Page Template Position: Choose where your Link List will go on the page. For example, if you are working with a Side by Side template, choosing position 2 will put the Link List on the right-hand side of the page.

When you're finished, click on the Save button.
 


Adding Links to an Article


Add Links to an Article - Step 1

First, Add an Article to your page, following the steps in How to Add an Article in WebGUI at http://www2.povnet.org/bwctraining_addarticle


Add Links to an Article - Step 2

Decide where in your article to put the links, then click on the Links button.

A window like the one on below will open.

Type: Choose HTTP to add a web site, or mailTo to add an e-mail address.

Target: Do not choose anything if you want the web site to open in the same window. Choose _target if you want the web site to open in a new window.

Link: Put the URL of the web site (or the e-mail address) you're linking to here.

eg, http://www.povnet.org/

Text: Put the text that the user will click on to get to the web site here.

eg, PovNet home page
eg, e-mail PovNet
