Making your First Web Page

Step 1

PovNet will already have set up a blank web page for you.

To get to your blank web page, go to www2.povnet.org and click on your group's name.
Notice the 2 after the www

If you don't see your group's name on the list, please let your PovNet contact know.


Step 2

Enter your username and password in the boxes at the top-right hand corner of the page.

In the top right, it will now say

Hello [username]. Click here to log out.

Click on your username, then click on Turn admin on.
You are now able to edit your first working page.


 


Step 3

Make sure that you are at www2.povnet.org/[groupname] (where [groupname] is your group's name with no spaces.

You're now ready to edit your page.


 


Step 4

To edit your page, click on the yellow Edit button at the top of the page.

Step 5

An Edit Page screen like the one below will appear.

Some Key Features:

Title This is the name that will appear in the title bar of a user's web browser.

Menu Title This name will appear in the page tree menu, and also in any site map or crumb trail.

Page URL This forms part of the URL or address of your page.

eg, if the name in the Page URL box is povnetcookies, the actual URL of your page will be http://www2.povnet.org/povnetcookies

Other Features
Don't worry too much about the other features. If you're interested in finding out more about these features, talk to your Building Web Connections contact person.

What Next?
You're almost done setting up your first page.
First, click on Layout at the top of the page, then follow the instructions in Step 6 below.

Step 6

Layout
Click on the arrow to the right of Layout to choose a layout from the drop-down menu.

PovNet can add your logo to your page. If you already have a logo in an electronic or print version, we can add that to your page. Ask your PovNet contact for details.

Templates
You can divide your web page into different sections. The default page has only one section.

When you choose another template, for example Side by Side or Three Over One, you will see a little diagram of how the page will be divided.

When you're finished, click on the Save button

Step 7

You're now ready to add content to your page.

If you prefer, you can add other pages to your web site first. Go to Add more pages at www2.povnet.org/bwctraining_addpage
