Law Students' Legal Advice Program (LSLAP)
Since 1971, CLAS has supervised and provided support staff to the law students involved in the Law Students' Legal Advice Program (LSLAP). The main areas of law handled by the law students include matters relating to: small claims disputes wills and estates, criminal, Motor Vehicle Act problems, employment insurance, employer/employee, social assistance, workers' compensation, landlord/tenant, and a variety of other legal issues.
Over 200 students volunteer their time to staff the 23 evening clinics operated during the university Winter and Spring sessions. During the Summer, the supervising lawyer is responsible for the 25 law students who work in full-time jobs and 2 law students who volunteered full-time. The students operates 28 clinics in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Throughout the year, over 4,000 people are seen at various clinics and are provided with legal advice, referral and follow-up services.
