BC Civil Liberties Association

Articling Student Position

The BCCLA is seeking an articling student for the 2024-2025 term. The student will work in the BCCLA’s four core program areas. Under the supervision of the student’s principal, the BCCLA’s Executive Director, and working frequently with Litigation and Policy Staff Counsel, the articling student will assist and conduct litigation in a diverse range of practice areas including constitutional, criminal, and administrative law. The articling student will also undertake legal and policy research, draft legal and policy documents and engage in advocacy and education on behalf of the BCCLA.

Compensation: This is a 12-month articling student position (including the duration of the student’s PLTC participation) with a salary of $52,000/annum; employer coverage of PLTC fees; and an extended benefits plan.

Disability Alliance BC (DABC)

Part time Reception position

Since 1977, Disability Alliance BC (DABC) has been a provincial, cross-disability voice in British Columbia. We are a non-profit, charitable organization that champion issues impacting the lives of people with disabilities through our direct services, community partnerships, advocacy, research and publications.

DABC is seeking a part-time Receptionist to join our Advocacy Access Team for a contracted 1 year period, with the possibility of extension dependant on future funding. Our receptionists are often the first face or voice that a client interacts with when connecting with DABC. The successful candidate will exhibit an empathetic and professional attitude who will respond to inquiries about our services as well as offer referrals to other community-based resources. DABC provides a variety of services that assist clients with applying for provincial and federal disability benefits, registered disability savings plan, tax filings and tax credits, legal aid, and accessible housing. The successful candidate will be working with other contracted and volunteer reception staff in-person at the front desk of DABC’s office in downtown Vancouver. All of our reception staff and volunteers are people living with disabilities.

Working hours: This position is for 24 hours a week, in office. The office hours at DABC are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Compensation: Salary will be $27,900 per year

Ending Violence association of BC

Program Coordinator of Social Enterprise

The Ending Violence Association of BC (EVA BC) is a dynamic, solutions-based provincial non-profit association that trains and supports close to 300 anti-violence programs and cross-sector initiatives across BC that respond to gender-based violence (GBV) including sexual and intimate partner violence.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Social Enterprise, the Program Coordinator of Social Enterprise is responsible for coordinating social enterprise programs and initiatives. These include but are not limited to training programs/projects such as: Be More Than a Bystander, and trainings focused on diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

Work also includes developing project plans and timelines, creating content such as promotional and training materials, and identifying personnel and other resources needed to ensure program deliverables and timelines are achieved in accordance with the project plans and budgets. The Program Coordinator will have experience in managing multiple projects, training coordination and outreach, budget tracking and reporting, and writing and facilitating gender-based anti-violence training.

The salary range for this position is $52,525 – $62,844.

Public Legal Educator

Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES)

Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a Canadian non-profit organization with over 30 years of experience in advancing the rule of law by empowering people to access and deliver justice through increasing legal capability, strengthening justice systems and developing digital solutions.

The Public Legal Educator will be part of our Justice System Education Program and will provide legal education to students and community groups. They will help increase the legal capability and deepen their understanding of our justice system of participants through educational sessions, watching live trials and interactions with justice professionals.

Legal Advocate

Seniors First BC

The Legal Advocate will provide legal information, summary advice and representation older adults who have limited financial resources. Client files are mainly issues about public sector pensions and benefits, residential tenancy issues and consumer debt. The Legal Advocate works with the SFBC to advance legal education and community outreach activities.

Qualifications:

·        Post-secondary education in law or social sciences, or other related field

·        Excellent advocacy and problem solving skills

·        Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written;

·        Understanding of trauma-informed approach and working with marginalized communities

·        Cultural competency and ability to work with older adults from various cultural communities.

·        Prior experience working as a legal advocate in the non-profit sector is an asset.

·        The ability speak languages other than English is an asset

Additional Information

The successful applicant will be expected to work out of our downtown office, with the option to work remotely a few days/week.

Rate of Pay: $59,000-$64,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.
